Bulgaria to slash VAT Rate to Boost Economy

Bulgaria may be extending its reduced VAT rate of 9% to other goods to boost consumerism and its economy in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. The reduced rate will take effect from August 2020.

Bulgaria may be extending its reduced VAT rate of 9% to other goods to boost consumerism and its economy in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. The reduced rate will take effect from August 2020. 

A draft bill was submitted to Parliament in late July to expand the scope of the reduced 9% VAT rate to the following supplies: 

  • Beer and wine provided as a part of restaurant/catering services;
  • Common tourist services and excursions organized by tourist operators and travel agents with occasional bus transport; and

Services for the use of sports facilities
